10 Common Beginner Mistakes in Megabonk
Every Megabonk player has been there - dying at minute 12 and wondering what went wrong. Here are the most common mistakes and how to fix them.
Mistake #1: Standing Still
The Problem: New players often stop moving to attack or pick up items.
The Fix:
- Your weapons attack automatically
- Keep moving in circles or figure-8 patterns
- Only stop briefly for critical pickups
Mistake #2: Ignoring Passive Items
The Problem: Prioritizing weapons and skipping passive items.
The Fix:
- Passive items enable weapon evolutions
- Many provide crucial stat boosts
- Aim for 3 weapons + 3 passives by minute 10
Mistake #3: Maxing One Weapon Early
The Problem: Putting all levels into one weapon.
The Fix:
- Spread levels across 3-4 weapons
- Diversity = better crowd control
- Max weapons only when you have their evolution passive
Mistake #4: Chasing XP Gems
The Problem: Running into danger to grab experience gems.
The Fix:
- Gems don't despawn immediately
- Kite enemies in circles - gems will be in your path
- Get Attractorb to pull gems toward you
Mistake #5: Wrong Evolution Pairs
The Problem: Getting weapons without their matching passives.
The Fix:
- Plan your build before starting
- Use our Build Simulator to check pairs
- If you get a weapon, prioritize its passive
Mistake #6: Skipping Treasure Chests
The Problem: Ignoring chests to keep moving.
The Fix:
- Chests provide gold and trigger evolutions
- Always open chests when safe
- Time your level 8 weapons with chest spawns
Mistake #7: No Defensive Items
The Problem: Going full offense with no survivability.
The Fix:
- Get at least one defensive item early
- Armor, Pummarola, or Laurel are great choices
- Being dead means zero DPS
Mistake #8: Fighting the Death Timer
The Problem: Trying to survive past 30 minutes without proper preparation.
The Fix:
- The Reaper spawns at 30 minutes
- You need specific items to survive or kill it
- On normal runs, 30 min is the "win" condition
Mistake #9: Ignoring Character Passives
The Problem: Not building around your character's strengths.
The Fix:
- Read your character's passive ability
- Build to amplify strengths or cover weaknesses
- Example: High luck character → Clover for crits
Mistake #10: Panic Leveling
The Problem: Picking the first option when leveling up.
The Fix:
- Take your time - the game pauses
- Read all options carefully
- Banish bad options from the pool
